Could you tell us about your charity?
I am playing for the Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation, and I got involved with them because I worked with Michael on Boston Legal a few years ago, and I'm wildly impressed with the work they're doing for stem cell research.
What would winning $1,000,000 mean to your charity?
I can't even imagine. I don't want to put the cart before the horse. I would be so happy, though, to give that kind of money to stem cell research and a foundation that was committed to making strides forward, 'cause the--the research they're doing is great not just for Parkinson's but for lots of other diseases, too.
What do you think of your competition?
I'm not happy with my competition today. I'm gonna be honest with you. I was lookin' for a dummy in there. I was hoping there'd be somebody you never heard of, off of like a--a reality show that maybe didn't have all his marbles. But apparently I got these two really bright women, so... It's all for charity, it doesn't matter, right?
Are you more or less nervous to play Jeopardy! this time?
Oh, I'm terrified--I'm totally terrified. It's a new set. There's new light systems. This buzzer is the bane of my existence. It makes you look like a dummy. I don't like it. Very nervous.
Did you prepare differently for this appearance than the last time?
No, I know now that it's all about the buzzer. Um, and I think this time, uh, I don't know, I'm really scared of my competition this time. I'm--I'm humbled, so we'll have to see what happens.
What categories are you hoping to see?
Um, well, I was an Italian Renaissance studies major, so any time you wanna ask about, like, the Sistine Chapel, that's always, uh, preferred... |
"For two seasons, she played attorney Denise Bauer in Boston Legal. Now starring in the critically-acclaimed new sitcom Modern Family, please welcome..."
Playing on behalf of the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
This fall, Julie Bowen stars in the new ABC situation comedy Modern Family. Appearing opposite Ed O'Neill and Ty Burrell, Bowen plays Claire, an uptight suburban mom with a somewhat jaded past.
Bowen was raised in Baltimore, Maryland, where she caught the acting bug as a child while putting on plays with her two sisters in their backyard. She attended Brown University, where she starred in Guys and Dolls, Stage Door and Lemon Sky. While earning a degree in Italian Renaissance studies, she also spent a year in Florence, Italy and became fluent in Italian.
During her senior year at Brown, Bowen landed the lead role in an independent film called Five Spot Jewel and was featured in actor-director Ed Burns' debut film No Visible Bruises. She guest-starred on the dramatic series Class of ‘96, then moved to Los Angeles where, within weeks, she landed the lead in the Showtime drama Runaway Daughters directed by Joe Dante.
Bowen was recently seen in a guest star arc on the darkly-comedic Showtime series Weeds as "Lisa Ferris", a cheese shop owner who seduces a younger man. And she will soon be seen in Crazy on the Outside, a feature starring, and directed by, Tim Allen.
She spent two seasons on ABC's critically-acclaimed Boston Legal as attorney "Denise Bauer". She plays the recurring role of Matthew Fox's wife on the hit ABC series Lost. And, for three seasons, she played Carol Vessey, the dream girl of former classmate-turned-lawyer "Ed Stevens" on the charming NBC series Ed.
On the big screen, she starred as Adam Sandler's love interest in the comedy Happy Gilmore and appeared with Michael Keaton in Multiplicity. She also starred in An American Werewolf in Paris, performed with Lynn Redgrave in the independent romantic comedy Venus & Mars and starred opposite Tim Allen in Joe Somebody.
In the advertising world, Bowen has been both the face of Neutrogena and the voice of Pampers.
Bowen lives in Los Angeles with her husband and three sons. |
