A librarian and a licensed amateur boxing official from Jacksonville, Florida...

Erik Larsen

Date of first appearance:
October 1990 [J! Archive note: this is not correct. Erik first appeared in February 1990.]

Total winnings:
$59,500 ($54,500 regular season, $5,000 Tournament of Champions)

Records held:
Five-time champion.

Favorite anecdote:
For a while after my Tournament of Champions appearance in 1991, every time I left the student housing cooperative where I was living at the time, anyone who saw me step out the door would whistle the Jeopardy! theme.

Did being on Jeopardy! have any effect on your life?
My winnings allowed me to attend my first choice of graduate school, and I got the job I held for eleven years after that via word-of-mouth. Had I not gone to that particular school, I probably wouldn't have heard about the opening, and therefore wouldn't have gotten the job.

Is there anything else you'd like viewers to know about you?
Actually, there are lots of things I'd like viewers not to know about me. ;-) However, the viewers might be interested to know that since my original Jeopardy! appearance, I've taken up officiating at boxing matches (mainly as a ringside judge, but I've also stepped into the ring as referee, a few times).
