Favorite anecdote associated with being on the show?
I ended up making a cameo appearance in the Tom Cruise/Dustin Hoffman movie Rain Man. Dustin Hoffman plays an autistic savant who must keep a very strict routine. Every day he watches Jeopardy! The movie shows him watching one of the games I played--unfortunately a question that I got wrong! (I'm the second member of my family to have a cameo in an Oscar-winning movie. A distant cousin had a one-line part in the opening scene of It Happened One Night.

Did being on Jeopardy! have any affect your life?
It's not so much a question of changing your life as it is giving you a certain cachet. I do a lot of public speaking and when I'm introduced they go through the various positions I've held, etc. But what perks up the audience is when they hear that I was a Jeopardy! Grand Champion. It's different--not something that many people have done.

Did you do anything crazy with your winnings?
No, I invested most of it--although I did buy a very attractive kaleidoscope to add to my very small kaleidoscope collection.

Is there anything else you would like viewers to know about you?
In addition to having written a book about Jeopardy! with 1986 Grand Champion Chuck Forrest, I am the author of the standard college/graduate school textbook on intelligence.
