My name is Pian Wong. I teach high school English at the High School of American Studies in the Bronx, New York.
What made you choose teaching as a career?
Um, I stumbled upon it accidentally. I thought I was going to go to medical school but I wanted to take a few years off and do something good. Um, it turns out that I actually love the job. I never, um, applied to medical school, and I've never thought of another career since.
Did your students help you prepare for the show?
My students did help me. They, uh, probably wanted to help me more than they wanted to learn English. Uh, so I had to limit it a little bit, but, um, we did play a few rounds together in class.
What do you hope your students learn from watching you on Jeopardy!?
I hope that my students will learn that, uh, learning is important, that you learn your whole life, and--and that sometimes learning pays off.
What does it mean to you to be competing in the Jeopardy! Teachers Tournament?
Oh, it's an actual lifelong dream come true. Um, I have always wanted to be on Jeopardy!, and to be on it with other teachers, it couldn't get any better than this.
Tune in! You might learn a thing or two! |
