An aspiring novelist and retired salesperson from Mendham, New Jersey...

Ann Thurlow

Wassap, New Jersey?! I'm Ann Thurlow from Mendham, same town as our governor. Watch me try to control the board tonight on Jeopardy!

[2011-11-25 Winner's Circle interview]
What does it mean to you now that you are a Jeopardy! champion?
As Jeopardy! champion, I am just delighted. I had fun, and I also proved that I was able to come from behind, that I was able to compete against some very formidable opponents, and I had to get a little money from the experience. It was a very, very exciting time for me, and my family has always enjoyed Jeopardy!...

What was the best part of your experience on Jeopardy!?
Some of the best parts of being Jeopardy! contestant was actually getting to meet the other contestants. First of all, they're really very intelligent, very impressive group with a lot of knowledge, so I knew that just going out there, I couldn't feel too embarrassed to get beaten by all of these people...

What's Alex Trebek like?
...Alex Trebek is very, very charismatic. Um, it comes across on TV, but when you meet somebody like Alex, seeing him in person, you understand why he's been so successful, because he's very magnetic. He responds to the crowd. He works with the audience so well, and he just is so comfortable and confident, and, of course, he's a very, very intelligent and charming man.

What are you going to do with your winnings?
Well, I won a nice sum of money. I think probably the first order of business is replacing a 13-year-old station wagon that is really, really gasping its last.

Season 28 1-time champion: $26,805 + $1,000.
