Laura Button

Hi, I'm Laura Button from Alpharetta. I'm a former black belt, so watch me knock out my competition on Jeopardy!

[2010-11-25 Winner's Circle interview]
How does it feel to be the new Jeopardy! champion?
Being a Jeopardy! champion feels amazing, but it doesn't feel real quite yet.

Any secrets to your success?
Well, I used to fight in open-ring boxing and MMA matches at a local bar, so I'm accustomed to having to calm myself down, and come from behind when necessary, and just stay focused and do what I have to do to win. [Smiles]

How did you prepare for your appearance on Jeopardy!?
I didn't. [Laughs] [Maggie Speak: "You didn't prepare at all?"] I didn't really prepare at all. I had a few categories that I knew I was weak in, and I thought about studying, but I was afraid I'd freak myself out more, so I just went into denial and got on a plane and showed up! [Maggie Speak: "Do you want to talk about that thing we were talking about?"] No, let's not. [Maggie Speak: "Who do you want to say thank-yous to?"] I want to thank my friend Becky for telling me that I could do this, and apparently she was right.

Season 27 1-time champion: $28,800 + $1,000.
