What's more difficult, preparing for finals or for Jeopardy!?
I would actually say preparing for finals, because, um, that's material that I haven't learned before, whereas Jeopardy!, to get this far, you already have to have a knowledge of trivia, so I just have to brush up, and practice with the buzzer.
What will you do with your winnings?
With my winnings, I'd like to pay for school, maybe finance a trip around the world, and, of course, invest in some bling.
What is your dream category?
Probably something having to do with pop culture. Uh, maybe RAP MUSIC, because I'm a huge fan.
Where do you hope to be in ten years?
Well, in school, I'm pre-med, majoring in political science and minoring in global health, so, hopefully, I'd like to find a career that would combine politics, medicine, and global health. I don't know exactly what that is yet, but I'm hoping I'll find out soon. |

My name is Katie Singh and I’m currently a sophomore at Northwestern University. I’m pre-med, majoring in political science and minoring in global health. I’m originally from Austin, TX.
I never imagined that I would ever be on Jeopardy! Sure, I’d watched it every day after school since 3rd grade (and whenever my college course schedule would permit). And, yeah, when I’d watch I’d almost always know the answers, even when the actual contestants didn’t. But I never thought that I’d actually be one of those contestants. Even when I took the online test the summer before my freshman year on a whim, I didn’t think anything would actually come of it. So when I got an email from Jeopardy! saying I’d passed the online test and was invited to audition in Chicago last October, I was pretty surprised. I went downtown and thoroughly enjoyed the audition, having fun with the second test and practice game. When I left, I thought to myself what an enjoyable experience it had been. But I never expected to get a call from Jeopardy! itself.
And I didn’t. That year, I watched the College Championship as I would any other Jeopardy! episodes and marveled to myself that I had come close to being one of those contestants. In February, I saw an ad for another online test and I figured, what the heck? Might as well try again. I could at least get another audition. So I did, and a few months later took the L back downtown to the Westin for the second time. I had fun, but again, no expectations.
The entire summer passed without a word from Jeopardy! so I assumed that, yet again, I wasn’t going to hear from them. Then one night, a little after school started, I was at dinner with my residents (I’m a Community Assistant—Northwestern’s version of an RA) and I got a call from an unknown area code on my phone. When I picked up, I got the most exciting news of my life—I was going to be on Jeopardy!
I’ve tried to prepare a little, but it’s been difficult with a full course load including organic chemistry and physics. Quizzes and midterms have taken up more of my time than Jeopardy! studying. But I’ve gone over a few trivia facts and watched some old games in my spare time. I hope it will be enough. |
