Where do you see yourself in ten years?
I have no idea where I'll be in ten years, though, knowing me, it'll probably be some form of grad school.
What's your major?
I don't know what I'm going to major in yet, though it might be comparative literature, because I'm interested in languages and literatures.
Who was the first person you told after you were chosen?
I think that my mom was the first person I told, but there had been a call t-to my home number before they called my cell number, so I think they knew something was up.
How did you prepare for the show?
To prepare for the show, I watched old episodes of Jeopardy! and University Challenge, which is a sort of academic bowl on British TV, and I also played on sporcle.com which is a trivia quiz site.

Hi! I'm Rebecca Maxfield, from Brown University. I'm a freshman and I don't know yet what I'll be majoring in, though since I'm interested in languages and literature, it might be something involving those, like Comparative Lit. At Brown, I also sing and act with the Gilbert and Sullivan theatre group and play on the Quizbowl team.
The qualifying process itself wasn't too exciting for me, but everything surrounding it was - I've watched Jeopardy! since I was very young (always, to my sister's chagrin, saying the answers out loud) and it was great to finally have a chance to be on the show! There's more and more excitement at every stage of it as you get closer to being among the people picked to compete.
I'm pretty sure the first person I told after I got "the call" was my mother. The first call had gone to my home number, so she and my sister knew something was up, but she still freaked out and would probably have flailed all over me, like she did when I got into college, if I hadn't been two hundred miles away.
I haven't been studying, per se, but I know what my weak spots are, so I'm playing trivia games on Sporcle.com (an excellent site!) to work those weak spots. I've also been watching old episodes of Jeopardy! and University Challenge to gain a bit more random knowledge. |
