Where do you see yourself in ten years?
Well, in ten years, hopefully I'll be done with school and have graduated, and be working somewhere. Not entirely sure yet, but hopefully I'm employed.
Do you think your major will give you an advantage in the College Championship?
Um, probably not. I don't really see many economics questions, so I don't think my major's going to really help me out, but, who knows?
How did you react when you were selected to be on the Jeopardy! College Championship?
Oh, when I found out I was going to be on the show, I pretty much freaked out. Um, I'm pretty sure my parents thought that something terrible had happened, but [laughs] finally, I think I calmed down and they realized what was going on.
How did you prepare for the show?
Um, I really didn't do a whole lot to prepare. I-I told myself I was going to, but at--in the end I just decided to relax and go with it and not try to stress out too much.

Samira Missaghi Blog Entry 1
February 2, 2010
Hello! My name is Samira Missaghi and I am an economics major at the University of Minnesota. For most of my life, I have lived in a suburb of Minneapolis called Eden Prairie. A few years ago, Eden Prairie was actually chosen as the best place to live in the country. I don't know if I'd go that far, but it was a nice place to grow up.
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be on Jeopardy. To the point that when I was thirteen I was completely heartbroken once I realized that I was too old to be on Kid's Jeopardy!--don't ask me why I didn't have hopes for the Teen Tournament. Who knows what I was thinking? It all worked out for the best, though.
I took the online test in the middle of my grandma's birthday party and I think that must have given me good luck. The combination of being timed and having to type out my answers freaked me out and I'm pretty sure that all of my answers contained typos. Luckily, at the audition I was much more relaxed. My mom and I drove down to Chicago and made a mini-vacation out of it. I finally got to go to the Art Institute and see my favorite painting, "Nighthawks." The audition itself was a lot of fun. We took another general test and then played some practice rounds. I left Chicago thinking that it was almost worth it just to have the audition experience (of course, I still really wanted to make it on the show!).
After the audition, I tried to put Jeopardy! out of my mind because I knew I was going to go crazy if I kept thinking about. Then one night I got a call from a number I didn't know and almost ignored it. But I looked at the area code and thought, "Isn't 310 LA? what if it's Jeopardy!??" The trouble after getting that call was focusing on the rest of my midterms and finals, but they (luckily) all went pretty well.
It still hasn't quite sunk in that I will be on Jeopardy! Maybe once I am actually standing in the studio it will hit me, but regardless, I am ridiculously excited to be on the show (and really excited to meet the other contestants, too). |
