A TV quiz show host from Lancaster, Pennsylvania...

Brad Rutter

Date of first appearance:
October 2000

Total winnings:
$1,155,102 plus a couple of Camaros.

Nickname:
Alex called me a buzzsaw once, but my parents have affectionately referred to me as "Quiz Boy" since my high school academic team days.

Records/Stats:
I held the all-time money title on Jeopardy! until that guy won 74 games in a row. I think his name was Kevin Jensen or something like that.

Favorite anecdote about being on the show:
My drunken friends arrived at the Million Dollar Masters finals sporting T-shirts that spelled out "RUTTER" in red capital letters. They enjoyed some well-earned screen time as the camera panned through the audience during the credits.

Did Jeopardy! have an effect on my life?
Sure, I almost always have fifty dollars cash money on me these days.

Did you do anything crazy with your winnings?
The only crazy thing I did with my winnings was buy a Porsche. I once got it up to [REDACTED] mph on I-95.

Is there anything else you would like people to know about you?
I now host my own local quiz show, InQuizitive, in central Pennsylvania. It's a lot of fun and I love working with bright-eyed, cheerful high school kids.

Brad also appeared on Grand Slam in 2007. He began as the top seed in the tournament because of his holding the all-time game show winnings record. He made it to the quarterfinal round, in which he was eliminated from the tournament in his loss to Who Wants to Be a Millionaire $500,000 winner Ogi Ogas.

Brad shared a $600,000 prize with Ethan Brosowsky and his "pub quiz" team comprising Ethan, Brad, Alan Bailey, Jonathan Dinerstein, Adam Stein, and Rebecca Ward on Million Dollar Mind Game aired 2011-11-27. The players met each other at O'Brien's Irish Pub Quiz in Santa Monica, California. The players unanimously opted to end the game at the $600,000 level rather than proceed to the million dollar question and risk losing all their winnings.

Brad appeared as a chaser on The Chase in 2021.
