Gretchen Carlson is currently co-anchor of the CBS Saturday Early Show and has been a CBS News correspondent since April 2002. A talented and versatile journalist, Carlson joined CBS News as a Newspath Correspondent based in New York City in 2000.

Carlson has built an extensive career as a journalist. Prior to joining CBS News, she worked as a weekend anchor and reporter for KXAS-TV, the NBC owned and operated station in Dallas (1998-2000). From 1996 through 1998, Carlson was lead anchor and reporter for WOIO-TV, the CBS affiliate in Cleveland, as well as for its sister station WUAB-TV (1995 - 96). Prior to that she was an anchor and reporter for WCPO-TV, the ABC affiliate in Cincinnati (1992-94) and an anchor and political reporter at WRIC-TV, the ABC affiliate in Richmond, Virginia (1990-92).
Carlson is the recipient of three American Women in Radio and Television National Awards (Gracie Award). She most recently won the Gracie Award for Best Network Feature (CBS News). The other Gracie Awards were for an investigative report on daycare (WOIO-TV) and a 30-part series on domestic violence. In addition, Carlson is the recipient of two Ohio Press Club Awards for Best Newscast in Ohio, a First Place citation for public service reporting (1997), and two local Emmy Awards (1994 & 1996).
A former Miss America who was the first classical violinist to have won the crown in 1989, Carlson was born in Anoka, Minnesota. She graduated with honors from Stanford University in 1990 with a degree in organizational behavior and studied at Oxford University in England.
She is married to Casey Close, President of IMG Sports and Talent Agency’s baseball division. They are the parents of a newborn daughter Kaia and reside in Manhattan. |
