What makes a great Jeopardy! contestant?
A great Jeopardy! contestant, y'know, has quick reflexes, they're smart (obviously), well-read, well-traveled, um... there's, uh... I think there's no set formula, I would say, judging from the people I've met who are the champions...
Did you do anything different to prepare for this appearance on Jeopardy!?
Yeah, I did a little bit. Y'know, I didn't--uh, I read a lot, and I worked out a lot more. I don't know, I sort of took it as, like, a holistic experience, where, y'know, sound mind, sound body-type deal. Figured I'd work out and listen to Huey Lewis and The News or something while I was doing that. Pick up some random facts along the way, if I could.
How did you react when you found out you would be in the tournament?
Oh, when I found out I was going to be in the Tournament of Champions, I was thrilled. Y'know, it was, uh, it was a thrill to win, uh, in the first place, one show, I came on with just thinking hey, you know what, if I finish in the black, y'know, and not--not even to win, but just to have some--some cash at the end, get the answer right. Uh, and then to win one, and win a few more, uh... y'know, it's, uh, it's really--this is--as great as it is, it's only icing on the cake. That--that was just such a wonderful experience.
Can you show us your buzzer technique?
Uh, it's just basically this... [taps right thumb into right fist repeatedly] I don't know, trying to, uh--I gave away my Nintendo a long time ago, I was pretty stupid, but, uh, that's, uh... that's my take... |
