Karla was brought back to the show after having previously appeared on show #5008, aired 2006-05-24. In that game, her opponent Matt Sojot had the lead going into Final Jeopardy! but both he and Karla, who was in 2nd place, responded incorrectly, allowing Tricia Barreiro to win her second game. According to Kate Zimmermann, Matt wrote to the contestant coordinators, protesting that his first Final Jeopardy! clue in the category PORT CITIES was ambiguous enough to make his response of "Kiev" potentially correct, and The Powers That Be opted to return him to the show. Karla was also given a return appearance about two months after Matt.
