A history professor at Prairie View A&M University from Houston, Texas...

Babu Srinivasan

Babu learned an important lesson as a semifinalist in the 2001 Tournament of Champions. He puts it this way: "Losing sucks." For the Million Dollar Masters he has decided to adopt a new style of play. He describes it: "1. Crush your enemies. 2. See them flee before you. 3. Rejoice in their lamentations." Tournament preparation for this assistant professor of history from Houston, Texas included reading a book on opera. "Hell," he says, "for a million dollars I'd even go to an opera!"

Hi, I'm Babu Srinivasan, a Jeopardy! champion, and you're watching me on jeopardy.com.

When did you first appear on Jeopardy!?
Okay, well it was actually, um, fairly recently, just last May. May 16, 17, 18, 21, and 22 of 2001.

How much money did you win in your previous competitions?
I won 5 days, got $75,000 and a Corvette. I was happy.

What is your fondest memory from your previous appearances on Jeopardy!?
Well, telling the world about Sri Lankan terrorism was kinda fun. And also, I did a Daily Double once, and then Alex Trebek was kinda surprised by the bet, wager I made, and he just kinda went like this: [jaw drops, eyes bulge--see player photograph]. That was pretty fun to see the expression on his face.

How has being on Jeopardy! changed your life?
Well, I'm not poor any more. That's a very good thing. Let's see, I got stalked once--I just talked about that earlier.

Do you have plans for the money if you win?
Well, somebody once asked me what I was going to do--actually the first thing they asked me when I was trying out for Jeopardy! was, what would I do if I won any money? Just came up with, "If I win, just going to go down to Sam's, buy an industrial-size bag of Chee-tohs, and sit on the couch for the rest of my life." With a million dollars, that dream could be a reality.
