How does it feel to be the new Jeopardy! champion?
Yeah, uh, I was very nervous. I'm still very nervous. Uh, uh, Genaro was a great champ. I got lucky against two very smart people. And I'm very happy to have done this.
How did you prepare for your appearance on Jeopardy!?
Uh, drank heavily, slept a lot... I'm kidding. Uh, I went to the library and read a bit. I watched, uh... [Male voice: "I thought you said you didn't sleep that much."] No, I slept about twelve hours a day. Uh, I spent a lot of time being nervous, basically.
Do you have any goals as a Jeopardy! champion?
Yeah, the main goal was not to humiliate myself. [Maggie Speak: "And you've done more than that!"] And hopefully to win a lot of money.

How does it feel to win your second game?
Yeah, um, I used to watch not only Jeopardy! with my grandmother, but my mom and dad. And my entire family'd sit around the TV and watch Jeopardy!, uh, in Florida whenever we go for the holidays. It's a big family competition. And we're all pretty good. Uh, uh, but they've encouraged me to try out, which I have done three times. I believe I've met Maggie all three times I've tried out. Finally, they let me fly out here and be on the show. I'm very happy for that opportunity. Thought I'd never make it. Oh, now I'm a two-time Jeopardy! champion--I can't believe it! Without having gotten a single Final Jeopardy! question right. So, I'm lucky.
How did you feel about your competition today?
Yeah, uh, all the people were--that I'm competing against are very bright, very well-informed, very charming, uh, and I'm lucky to have won a single game, much less two--two games in a row. I don't deserve it. But I'm happy that I've done it. |
