Although Brendan played the Jeopardy! and Double Jeopardy! Rounds standing up, the post-game credits chat was conducted behind the podiums (instead of center stage, as usual) and it appeared that Brendan was sitting in a chair.
In October 2011, Jeopardy! executive producer Harry Friedman related the following story to reporter Michael Kelly of The Omaha World Herald:
"But just the other day, a contestant didn't look well when he came in," Friedman said. "He made it to Final Jeopardy and passed out — from nerves or maybe because he was dehydrated."
Medical personnel made sure he was OK, and taping resumed in 45 minutes.
The date of the published report coincides roughly with the date of the taping of this episode.
Returning champion Bhibha Das corroborated in an article published in The News-Gazette:
"While the contestants were having their makeup reapplied, making the Final Jeopardy wagers, and getting last-minute encouragement from the contestant coordinators, one of my fellow contestants passed out! One of the contestant coordinators caught him before he hit his head or anything. But, we had to stop taping for about an hour while medical personnel came and checked out the contestant. Luckily, he was given the go-ahead and we finished taping the episode. In that episode, if you look closely enough, you can see him sitting in a chair." |
