A playwright and director from Sherman Oaks, California...

Alan Bailey

What did Jeopardy! bring to your life?
My girlfriend and I were doing a show together, we'd been friends for about a year, but as we were working together it seemed that this was developing into something more, so I invited her over to my apartment for dinner and to watch Jeopardy!, and I'd been taping them--I had several of them on tape--so she came over and we had a nice dinner, and then it was time to watch Jeopardy!, and the VCR was in the bedroom, and... that's how we got together! Jeopardy!'s been very good to me.

How did you react after you won Jeopardy!?
The afternoon after I won Jeopardy!--my fifth game on Jeopardy!--um, I had kept myself together the whole time that I was here, uh, but, I have to confess that I got out to the Sony parking garage and just screamed and screamed and screamed in my car, and all the way home, I stopped at every red light and rolled the window down and told people I'd just won on Jeopardy!

What was their reaction?
They loved it! They loved it. Well, they also--it kind of answered who that person was who was honking his horn all the time.

Any special reasons to play today?
I'm Alan Bailey, a five-time Jeopardy! champion, and I've run out of money from my first appearance, so I need some more.

2005 Ultimate Tournament of Champions Round 1 player: $5,000.
2003 Tournament of Champions semifinalist: $10,000.
Season 17 5-time champion: $61,501 + a Chevrolet Suburban.

Alan shared a $600,000 prize with Ethan Brosowsky and his "pub quiz" team comprising Ethan, Alan, Brad Rutter, Jonathan Dinerstein, Adam Stein, and Rebecca Ward on Million Dollar Mind Game aired 2011-11-27. The players met each other at O'Brien's Irish Pub Quiz in Santa Monica, California. The players unanimously opted to end the game at the $600,000 level rather than proceed to the million dollar question and risk losing all their winnings.
